The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats

Bibliography: Keats, Ezra J. The Snowy Day. Bergenfield, NJ, Viking Press, 1996. ISBN: 9780670867332 Plot Summary: Peter wakes up one morning to find snow everywhere outside his house. He was so excited to play in the snow, make tracks, build a snowman, and make snow angels. He knew he was too small to play with the big kids, so he continued to have fun by himself. The problem in the story was when Pete couldn't find the ball of snow he put in his jacket pocket because it melted. He also had a dream that all the snow melted away like his snowball. He woke up the next morning to find all the snow was still there. Problem solved. He grabbed a friend and went to have fun in the snow again. Critical Analysis: It was refreshing to see an African American child as the main character in the story without it being offensive or overriding the plot of the story. The pictures were in warm and soft colors allowing you to relax and enjoy they story of Peter discovering snow in the cit...
